Is my employer paying UIF for me? / Betaal my werkgewer UIF vir my?

If you work more than 24 hours a month for an employer, they must register you for UIF. Each month, 1% of your pay is deducted and your employer adds 1%.

How to check, step by step:

1. Look at your pay statement. A UIF deduction of about 1% should be shown.
2. Ask your employer, kindly, for the UIF reference number. Many employers simply haven't got round to it.
3. Contact the UIF if you still aren't sure: phone 012 337 1680, email domestics@uif.gov.za, or visit your nearest Labour Centre.

Why it matters: UIF can help you when you lose your job, are ill, or are on maternity leave, if you qualify. We can't promise any claim will be paid, but you can't claim if you're not registered.
