Request Account Deletion

If you wish to delete your HouseholdSure SA account, please contact our support team using one of the methods below:

What Happens When You Delete Your Account

When you request account deletion, the following will occur:

  1. Your account will be deactivated immediately, and you will no longer be able to log in.
  2. Your data will be soft-deleted (removed from active use and hidden from all systems), then retained securely for 7 years to meet legal record-keeping obligations before permanent deletion.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email once your deletion request has been processed.

Legal Data Retention Requirements

Under South African law, HouseholdSure SA is legally required to retain certain records for compliance purposes:

  • Employment records: Must be retained for 7 years after termination of employment, as required by the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) and the Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA).
  • Financial records: Including payment history, invoices, and tax-related documentation, must be retained for 7 years as required by the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
  • Contracts and agreements: Employment contracts and related legal documents must be retained for 7 years.
  • UIF submissions: Records submitted to the Unemployment Insurance Fund must be retained for audit and compliance purposes.

After the 7-year legal retention period has expired, these records will be securely archived and eventually permanently deleted in accordance with our data retention policy and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Your Rights Under POPIA

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the following rights:

  • The right to request access to your personal information
  • The right to request correction of inaccurate information
  • The right to object to the processing of your information
  • The right to request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements)
